Words used in Works

Works uses a few words in a particular way. Here's what each one means.

Word What it means
Plate A saved print setup: the printer, build time, filament (total grams for the whole plate), hands-on time, and what it yields (e.g. 6 × Phone Stand).
Job One print of a plate on a printer, on the schedule.
Made / Bought / Assembled How an item comes to exist. Made: you print it, and its cost is its share of its plate. Bought: you buy it, and its cost is its price (or the pack's price ÷ how many are in it). Assembled: you put it together from other items and services, such as assembly time.
Product Any item ticked Sold. It has a retail price, and Works shows its profit and margin.
Default plate The plate an item's cost comes from, when it can be printed on more than one. Works shows each plate's cost per piece so you can pick the cheapest.
Spool One physical roll of filament, numbered S-0001, with its grams left: sealed, open, loaded or empty.
Print loss Pieces that didn't come out good when a job was finished. Reports show what they cost.
Landed cost What a received item really cost: its price plus its share of shipping, fees and any taxes you don't get back.
Quote / Order Q-0001 is a price offered to a customer; SO-0001 is a sale. A quote becomes an order with one click (Make it a sale).
Quick job One screen for a walk-in sale while the customer waits, including a one-off print straight from the slicer.
Waking hours When you're awake to start and empty printers. Works flags jobs that start or finish outside them.

Where things are

The menu across the top:

  • Dashboard
  • Sales: Quick job, Orders, Quotes, Products
  • Production: Schedule, Printers, Plates
  • Stock: Inventory, Purchase orders, Suppliers
  • Customers: Customers, Messages, Directory listing, Reviews
  • Reports

Settings and Plan & billing are in the account menu (your name, top right).

A few things that are true everywhere

  • Everything can be undone or corrected. Loading a spool, finishing a job, receiving stock, changing an order's status: each has an Undo or a way to fix it, and the history is kept.
  • Your real costs. Prices and profits come from your own rates, printers, filament and supplies, not generic estimates.
  • Any printer, any slicer. Nothing is tied to a brand. You type the grams and build time in from your slicer.
  • Your currency, time zone and taxes. Each shop has its own currency (CAD or USD), time zone and tax list.
